The Indiana University Histotechnology Program is seeking a Teaching Assistant-Grader (TA). This person will work closely with the Program’s director, education coordinator and administrative assistant. Assignments will need to be picked up from the program and graded remotely. You will be provided a microscope, but you must provide your own internet access. If you have any questions feel free to contact Debbie Wood at demwood@iu.edu

Job Summary

The Teaching Assistant-Grader (TA) in histotechnology is responsible for the grading of homework, practicum logs and technical product (slides, blocks & accompanying paperwork) for the Histotechnology Program. TA's are generally expected to grade and provide feedback on student assignments, and attend any other meetings scheduled by the course instructor. The TA is required to be familiar enough with all histologic concepts involved in a class in order to accurately grade that material. The ability to identify tissue microscopically, distinguish high quality technical product, identify faults, problem solve issues and provide troubleshooting technique feedback is a must. The TA is required to input and maintain an accurate grade record. Graders are responsible for learning all background and lecture material necessary for accurate grading of homework and technical product at the instructor’s discretion.

Performs grading duties in support of the Histotechnology Educational program.
• 90% grading of homework, practicum logs and technical product.
• 10% attend meetings scheduled by the course instructor.

Required Qualifications

AS degree in science and two years of histology experience in a full-service clinical histology, diagnostic veterinary or research core lab.

HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certified.

Ability to work independently. Strong judgment and communication skills. Time management skills.

Work Location

Will be working in an office and online. 

Approximate hours per week: varies, up to 10/week.
